Where for art thou Ketchup?

I haven't forgot the plan... well yet anyway, i am a forgetful procrastinating blonde (with a small head)

Here is the riveting magical masterpiece premiere (i'm watching the Oscars as i type this can you tell?) of recap monday, hold tight its going to be AWARD WINNING stuff, or at least blog worthy, too bad there isn't Oscars for blogs, you could call is the Blogscars, hahahaaa - i'm slightly delirous right now, i'll explain more later, just have a little patience (with me and this dragging oscar broadcast)

So anyway, I had a super weekend - i'll give a little recap then upload some pics with I will explain in the 3 words or less, just because i love a challenge! (that and the Oscars are really boring so far)

Friday we rented some movies got take out and snuggled all night, friends dropped by and we just plain relaxed in our Den of Snuggles (aka: our tv room)

Rented some movies...

LRT Movie reviews in five words or less (3 just doesn't cut it)

You again - Funny AND Lame at same time
Megamind - Not as funny as hoped
Case 39 - Freaky but meh, Orphan better

Drank some beer

Doodle got treats

Saturday we went on a short roadtrip to Hamilton to use up my benefits money on sunglasses, we looked at some model homes there and decided the builder we were going with just isn't up to snuff so we panicked and spend most of Saturday night on MLS.ca looking for new builders

Doodle loves blowdryer!

Frolic in Snow
Didn't take photos was having too much fun in the snow with my loves

Sunday i woke up sick - blech!  We went to look at some model homes and found 2 builders with a few lots left in the area we want and we actually made an appointment for a realtor we met (who has a doodle too!) to come look at the house on Wednesday - progress!!!
I hallucinated twice (due to immense sickness aka: sore throat and headache) once i freaked out because i thought a house had a sign saying it cost $519,755,5555 it was actually a builders phone number, THEN i pointed out a doggie in the next car to the doodle and realized it was a little boy in a baseball cap, my mind completely dissolves the second i get a sore throat, its embarrasing
Had fab dinner with the family celebrating brother in laws birthday, Happy 28th Chris!!!  And made some great race plans with my sister, i'm SO itching to start my half marathon training!

Oh and that title?  Thats because BF and i spent 20 minutes searching for our ketchup (he refuses to eat scrambled eggs without ketchup, i'm serious here friends, you think i'm quirky? you haven't met my BF), yeah so this is where we found it, i am sooo blonde and ridiculous sometimes, i tried to act unsure how it happened but it was totally me

Like wheres Waldo the condiment edition

Speaking of eggs, here is todays foodie post in pictures!

First came the egg (or was it the chicken? LOL)

Add in this contraption, try not to make it dirty, i know its difficult not too!

Add them together and you get this, bet you didn't see that coming, if you did just play along, im sick and i need positive reinforcement

Throw in a little spinach and ezekial toast of course

And then consume it with your mouth, perfection! Now if only i could remember where i put that ketchup?

Hope everyone else had a GREAT weekend!

The PLAN

Remember these from yesterday?  Shockingly there are a few left over - I had a plan, it involved these cookies, a memory of a dessert long ago forgotten, breakfast time and a positive attitude - i'm obviously back to my annoyingly perky self!  More on these morsels of happiness in a bit but first another plan...

As we all know, Donna's plans don't always work out, the reasons you ask?  I'm a bit of a dreamer, a procrastinator and i drop stuff A LOT (thats not really relevant but alas its true)

Todays plan is a bit of an outline I came up with for the blog while sleeping last night, i dream blog posts, that and i dream the doodle took the car out of park on a hill and crashed into someones car, that doodle, she is such a sneaky bugger - she knows she isn't supposed to drive with out adult supervision!

Okay, i digress (as usual) - Here is the plan and i appreciate ANY feedback, even if it is just to yell at me about yesterdays cookie post because you ate A LOT and its okay, ginger is good for digestion!  There i go again, alright focus...

Monday's post: A weekend recap in fun photos

Tuesday's post: Traveling Tuesday, either a travel blog, a place i want to visit, or just items i love to travel with

Wednesday's post: What i ate Wednesday, a recap of an entire day of food from the previous week, i'll make it interesting, don't you worry friends!

Thursday: Thirsty Thursday, a new smoothie recipe because there are an infinite number of concoctions i can come up with (and not just in my sleep)

Friday: Fashion Friday, my favourite work out outfit of the week and wear to work outfit, online shopping, things i've bought (other then groceries because thats where most of my $ goes these days)

There will be recipes interlaced throughout the week but its nice to have an outline to go by now that i'm posting almost every day, i'm a planner AND a procrastinator, i like to contradict myself :o)

So i can't even tell you how excited i am its the weekend, BF and I only get every other weekend together so we like to make the most of it!  We decided that our biweekly date night would be held at home on Friday, we got spicy chicken takeout, drank beer and tried to imagine we were back in Aruba, unfortunately the sounds of waves were interupted by snowplows driving past the house, oh Ontario we do heart love (my mum reads this blog and doesn't like when i "heart" stuff, its a lame word she says, my very british mum is quirky just like me and being the good daughter i am, i will take this word out for you, but if you tell me later you don't like the word "healthify" you are out of luck, you used up your one word removal pass, love you!) okay back to Ontario, we LOVE you but we are SO ready for spring!
I have another breakfast oatmeal recipe for you today - its called leftovers oatmeal!  So one of my most favourite british foods is Ginger Cake, growing up my parents would always top it with fresh whipped cream (none of that crap in a can) and clementines and it was pure heaven on a plate - anyhoo during one of my many wake ups during the night (this one was due to the chills as fur baby had snuck up on the bed and was stopping the upward movement of the duvet) i had a lightbulb above the head moment, i could add ginger to my oatmeal and i could top it with clementines and a crumbled ginger cookie and recreate Ginger Cake just you know, in a healthified way,  this idea blew my mind - and totally messed up my hair with the winds of greatness ...

Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup of Oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup of almond milk
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 Tbsp of chia seeds
  • 1 Tbsp of ground flax
  • 1 tsp of fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp of ground ginger
  • Clementines
  • Crumbled ginger cookie
  • Agave Nectar to drizzle for shizzle
Directions

1. Mix together everything but the clementines/cookie/nectar
2. Bring to a boil for 3-4 minutes stirring constantly
3. Pour into bowl and immediately sniffing the fabulous ginger fumes as you go
4. Top with clementines and crumbled cookie, if no one is looking eat another cookie and let your tummy crumble that one for you
5. Artfully decorate your bowl with agave nectar, wish you had a bigger bowl because that took about 2 seconds and you aren't feeling as artistically fulfilled as you could

The replacements

Well first off friends i've replaced my bad mood with a much MUCH better one - lululemon upload day on Thursday always helps me improve my mood, so a big LRT (thats short for Love Run Travel, i'm just trying the shortcut out for the first time, whaddyathink?)  shoutout to LuLuLemon, i adore you even if my visa card doesn't!  AND (dramatic pause) today is Friday, can i get a woot woot? Seriously give it to me, i'm hanging by a thread till 4:30pm when i can finally relax with BF for 2 glorious solid days

Plus its hard not to giggle and be in a better mood when you see what people search for and end up at your blog, todays was "inflammation in big mac vs oatmeal" ummm okay sure, welcome inflamed food friend :o)

Since i started this blog BF and i (by that i mean, me alone, BF has a pathetic fear of the grocery store, he claims he can never find anything and will come up with ANY excuse to get out of going, i however can spend hours wandering the aisles, especially the cheese aisle, don't get me started on the cheese aisle) have replaced a lot of our old food with newer healthier alternatives

Here are a few examples

Any questions blog readers? any suggestions of other foods i can replace with better ones? and JUST in case you didn't figure it out, the food on the left is the better one... (this is where you get confused scroll through the pics again and realize hahaha, that donna is trying to be funny, she is about as funny as she is cute in a hat... that would be not at all!)

But enough about what we don't eat anymore - THESE are what we've been eating in large quantities since yesterday -  a whole dwindling pile of yummy Ginger Molasses cookies thanks to this insanely good recipe!

Ginger Molasses Cookies
adapted from here

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1.5 tsps baking soda
  • 1.5 tsps of cinnamon
  • 1.5 tsps ground ginger
  • dash of salt (i love the word dash, i think my bf is dashing!)
  • 1/2 cup of marg (i use earth balance)
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar (hey its brown, totally healthy!)
  • 1 egg white (i might have got some yolk in there and that stuff is NOT easy to separate once its in the effing bowl!)
Directions

1. In a bowl stir together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, salt
2. In a separate large bowl blend with an electric mixer the egg white, brown sugar, margarine and molasses
3. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture (be thrilled for me, we are at 3 directions already woohoo!)
4. Eat a STUPID amount of the cookie dough, its heaven in a bowl
5. Measure out half tbsp and roll into a ball - put a thumb imprint into balls and sprinkle with sugar - i used organic demara sugar

6. Bake for 11 minutes at 350 degrees
7. Wait a minute before removing from pan - i totally ignored this direction and lost the bottom off a few cookies and since they weren't perfect - and i'm a bit of a perfectionist i HAD to get rid of the less then perfect evidence... into... my... tummy... it went!
8. Burn your tongue on cookies because you can't wait to eat them even though you probably ate the equivalent of 12 cookies already in dough (wait that was just me!)

Now its time for pretty outside pictures, you know the ones, where my neighbours watch me and think i'm a total loon and the doodle hovers waiting for me to drop something (she knows what a klutz her mama is!)

Okay, so lets have a moment for my iPhone today, i left the poor thing home alone for 8 whole hours

I'm sorry iPhone, i will never leave you alone again that long
I'm sure the doodle kept you company while i sat at work and tried to be strong
But now we are together again and our time apart has made us stronger
So I will end this ridiculous poem, i don't want to torture my blog readers any longer

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!
